In 1779, for a generous offer of 4 pounds of spring beaver fur William Rogers bought a parcel of land from David Sewall. William Rogers' son Nathaniel Rogers (William Rogers son) built his house on that parcel in 1812, a house that would become todays Wolfeboro Inn and Wolfe's Tavern.

It remained a private home for 75 years to the Rogers family. In August of 1872, the first locomotive delivered 5 passenger cars to the quaint lakeside town, forever changing it. The track was extended across Main Street to connect with steamboat traffic at what is now the town docks from Lake Winnipesaukee. As tourist traffic increased, the Rogers home started to provide lodging and food to travelers. Source: A History of the Town of Wolfeborough, New Hampshire, by Benjamin Franklin Parker, 1901, as reproduced with photos and other materials on Winnipesaukee Forum

In the 1920s, H.R. Carlisle bought the Rogers home and operated a restaurant and gift shop called The Copper Kettle. In the early 1930s, Mr. and Mrs. James Carr purchased the property, and turned it into an exclusive summer guest house called Carr House. It closed during World War II and reopened in 1945.

The home was sold again in 1959 and renamed The Wolfeboro Inn. Paul and Mary McBride purchased it in 1962. After just a few years the inn's fine cuisine was featured in Holiday magazine.

An adjacent property was bought on Sewall Road to make room for an addition.

A three-story addition was completed in 1988, offering suites and outstanding views of the lake. Hay Creek Hotels purchased The Wolfeboro Inn,  The property received a $5 million renovation in 2009. And now you can enjoy all of its glory for vacation weddings, dinner, events and all. The grounds feature a large grassy area with gazeebo ideal for events a. You can also catch teh Winnipesaukee Belle, a reproduction river boat for tours and fun.
