Lake Winnipesaukee | New Hampshire Lakes Region Lake Winnipesaukee (pronounced WI-ni-puh-Saw-kee) is located in East Central New Hampshire and is the largest lake in the state. Irregular in shape, with many arms of significance: Moultonborough Bay, Paugus Bay, Opeche Bay, and Alton Bay. It has 283 miles of shoreline and many small islands. The Winnipesaukee River exits from Opeche Bay of Lake Winnipesaukee at Laconia, and flows 1 mile SW into Winnisquam Lake, continues through Tilton Lake and Silver Lake, past Tilton, then joins the Pemigewasset River at Franklin to form the Merrimack River.
