Green Homes

I have always been of fan of and appreciate any home that is super energy efficient. Certainly homes were just built to be ok with a minmum of 2x6 construction and certain R-values for and energy star rated windows.

In 1993, the U.S. Green Building Council  created LEED certification (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) where building standards were created to provide a framework for certifying buildings designed to be "sustainable". it includes a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance. To have a minimal impact on the environment from the initial construction to the finished product.  In a small part we can include Energy Star appliances as well. Most towns require energy efficient windows to be installed in any home built. 

sustainable house is a home that has the least possible negative impact on our environment. This means energy efficiency, avoiding environmental toxins, using materials, and resources in a responsible manner while having a positive physical and psychological impact for the people who live in these homes.
