Useless Trivia worth talking about in small talk

Some more entertaining or useless significant trivia for everyday use--

has nothing to do with New Hampshire, Waterfront homes or real estate.

Everyone has something to say about real estate, buying or selling homes whether it be in the Lakes Region, Seacoast, White mountains, anywhere in the Granite State. Then there all the hoopla about mortgages, interest rates, real estate companies folding, lenders going out of business, all the ballyhoo on sub prime loans, banks, foreclosures, and all the bad press about the housing market in general. Not to mention all the stuff in Iraq, the war, anything that comes out of President Bush's mouth, the election, Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, Tom Cruise, the writer's strike, Nostradamus, it is never ending. 

So here I have compiled a list of little ice breakers--small talk of sorts- to take your mind off the press -- Little known factoids to get into heated discussions about nothing.You never know when you might need to know some of this....

 

  • The liquid inside young coconuts can be used as a substitute for Blood plasma.
  •  No piece of paper can be folded in half more than seven (7) times. Oh go ahead...I'll wait...~
  • Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes.
  • You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television.
  • Oak trees do not produce acorns until they are fifty (50) years of age or older.
  • The first product to have a bar code was Wrigley's gum.

  • On average women say 7,000 words per day. Men manage just over 2000. (Hey I am a man so I don't have much to say about that little factoid. )
  • A cucumber is 96% water. 84% of a raw apple is water.  The human brain is about 85% water. 
  • A honey bee must tap two million flowers to make one pound of honey. In the lifespan of a worker bee-it will produce only 1/12 of  teaspoon of honey. 
  • The bubbles in Guiness beer sink to the bottom rather than float to the top as in other beers.
  • Sea water, loaded with mineral salts, weighs about a pound and a half more per cubit foot than fresh water at the same temperature. 
  • Chocolate contains phenylethylamine (PEA), a natural substance that is reputed to stimulate the same reaction in the body as falling in love.
  • Banana plants are the largest plants on earth without a woody stem. They are actually giant herbs of the same family as lilies, orchids and palms. AND There are more than 500 varieties of banana in the world
