    New Hampshire Lake Quality

Lake Quality in the NH Lakes Region

I get asked all the time how clean the water is on any particular lake in New Hampshire. There are those who feel a clean lake can only be one that looks like the water that is in a pool.   There are so many aspects of a lake that determines its quality including depth, acreage, water source, number of homes on the lake.

Tea colored lakes are quite common in NH--but it has more to do with the iron in the water.  Chemical and physical aspects of a lake, and the biological cycles and components of a lake play an important role in determining water quality. Food chains directly affect the fisheries and wildlife capacity of a lake. The type and abundance of plants and algea can and do affect the planned uses of a lake. Monitoring biological components is important to understanding and managing New Hampshire's beautiful lakes.

DES does a good job of monitoring the lakes, and lake house owners are quite proud of their lakes and do much to preserve their quality and natural beauty.
